Apple Watch Ultra Talk :)

In this video, I briefly discuss my switch from Garmin smartwatches to the Apple Watch Ultra. This wasn’t a change I made lightly as I’ve been a Garmin guy, even in the League of Garmin, since the beginning of my running. But I am excited about the switch!

2021 Badwater Cape Fear 50k

Wow! What an adventure!! The morning began with a quiet and cool ferry ride in the minutes right before dawn from Southport to Bald Head Island which is only reachable by boat. We gathered around the oldest lighthouse in my home state known as Old Baldy and the tiny mosquitoes were already waking up for what I’m sure they thought was a gift of a big breakfast😂. It was already 70° at 7am. I met some awesome ultra runners as we waited, chatted and even posed for a quick appearance on The Weather Channel (I’ll post a pic from the video of us out there in my stories). This adventure actually started way back in March when my younger brother Chris talked me into joining him in this race. My sister-in-law Kim was out there taking pics and got one of Chris and I before the start. I also got a quick pic with @chriskostman , the Badwater race director.

2019 Hallucination 6 hr Trail Run

I had a terrific time at the 2019 Hallucination 6hr Trail Run down in Moncks Corner, SC this past Saturday! Chad Haffa and @eagle_endurance always have great races in scenic locales. I’ve done the Swamp Fox 14 miler the last two years and volunteered at this race last year. These are fun and challenging events.

At the beginning of the race I thought I had set my Apple Music exercise/running playlist to play and when I tapped my Bluetooth headphones instead it began playing random songs and started with Karen Carpenter singing ‘Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire!’ I thought well this is just great and laughed at myself. I went with it for the first loop😂.

2019 Southern Tour Ultra 50 Mile Relay

Had an absolutely awesome time today at the 4th annual Southern Tour Ultra. My 50 mile relay team, Because Uber Was Busy, was one of 79 teams to compete. We finished 50 miles with an actual time of 8hrs and 17 minutes time before our handicap. I’m really proud of that as we were a team of five and many teams had 8-10 members which meant each of us had to run two 5 mile loops. It was a very scenic race on an undeveloped tract of land along the intracoastal waterway.

2018 Swamp Fox Ultra

I had a blast running the 14 miler at the 2nd annual Swamp Fox Ultra. I had a much faster time this year over last year’s race! We started out at 6am (sunrise is at 7:37am there) and ran a little over half of it with headlamps which is fun and interesting.  Literally gets you back to the ‘roots’ of trail running😂. Several roots tried to trip me but that’s ok.
