2021 Myrtle Beach Half Marathon

Myrtle Beach Half Marathon done! I didn’t PR but I did much better than I thought I would. It was so great to actually race with other runners! It was a terrific crowd and nearly perfect conditions. I’m not in as good a shape as I was last Spring but the adrenaline kicked in and made up some of the difference. I saw my friend @jim_burrows_runs between my 5th and 6th mile. He had a big smile. This is what a runner lives for! This is a nice flat race. Met my buddy Gary Lee at the finish. He had a great race too. I thank the Lord to get back at some normal racing for a change!

2020 TriSpan 5k

Well… the Scottish poet Robert Burns once wrote, “The best laid schemes of Mice and Men oft go awry, And leave us nothing but grief and pain, For promised joy!” I thought of this quote this morning. I got up on time at 5am, had my Black Rifle CAF cup of coffee, got to the greenway on time as planned, ran a warmup mile and even had a local running group that showed up for their own training run to cheer me on at the start. Sounds good so far right? I started and was hitting my paces at each quarter mile of nearly the first third of the virtual TriSpan 5k.

2020 Myrtle Beach Marathon

Myrtle Beach Marathon was awesome even with the wind! It is a scenic course which at one point parallels the ocean. I got to see my friends @kristinrunsmiles and Mikie Pylilo whom I met in Boston last year. Isn’t it cool how runners can relate so easily and became, pardon the pun, fast friends😂. Kristin and Mikie really helped me when I was a newbie last year at Boston and so I was glad to see them again and to meet Kristin’s husband Danny who was running his first marathon. I also was blessed to run with my friends Gary Lee, Tony Southerland and Wendy Boyette, who was running her first marathon too.

2019 Marine Corps Half Marathon

Lisa took this pic of me as I was coming in for a landing. I’ve been looking forward to this race for the last month. I haven’t ran in a half marathon since last October since I’ve spent most of this year it seems Marathon training, first for Boston and now for New York. And I was keen to see how much I had improved since that Ocean Isle Half which I ran in 2:16. So this was a 10 min Half Marathon PR plus I improved 32 minutes over my previous time of 2:38 when I ran the 30th anniversary 2017 Marine Corps Half.

The CleanRide Car/Truck Seat cover is an essential item for runners and other outdoor enthusiasts.  Check out my review.  I highly recommend this product as I’ve had two of them for about a year and I sweat like a beast on my runs.  These have saved my truck and car seats from my funk 🙂  […]

2019 Home Run 5k

Had a blast at this year’s Home Run 5k benefitting the Free Will Baptist Children’s Home. Several of my great friends from our local running group, Friends Run Together, were there.

2019 Boston Marathon

Well, after training since the second week of December with a general goal similar to Rocky in the first movie of going the distance (this was not only my first Boston Marathon, but my first marathon in my relatively young running career) I finally caught my first official unicorn even if I almost had to fall on him to catch him! 😂.

2019 Southern Tour Ultra 50 Mile Relay

Had an absolutely awesome time today at the 4th annual Southern Tour Ultra. My 50 mile relay team, Because Uber Was Busy, was one of 79 teams to compete. We finished 50 miles with an actual time of 8hrs and 17 minutes time before our handicap. I’m really proud of that as we were a team of five and many teams had 8-10 members which meant each of us had to run two 5 mile loops. It was a very scenic race on an undeveloped tract of land along the intracoastal waterway.
